A 25-year-old trainee sangoma lost his life after drowning in the Rainbow River. The unfortunate event took place on Sunday at Majembeni Trust near Bushbuckridge when three male trainees and a female traditional healer gathered at the river to perform rituals.
According to Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli, one of the trainees went missing in the water during the ritual. “Despite their efforts, the group couldn’t locate him,” said colonel Mdlhuli.
“The matter was reported to the police, leading to a three-hour search before the victim’s body was recovered,” added Colonel Mdlhuli.
Colonel Mdhluli also stated that no visible injuries were found on the victim. “However, an inquest docket has been opened as the police initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” added Colonel Mdlhuli.
