In a surprising turn in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, the lawyer representing Muzi Sibiya, claimed that Longwe Thwala fired the shot that killed the soccer star on October 26, 2014.
This statement was made during the cross-examination of police ballistic expert Colonel Chris Mangena.
Longwe Thwala was present at the Vosloorus home of Kelly Khumalo’s mother on the night of the incident. Mngomezulu also confirmed with the prosecution that the firearm belonged to Chicco Thwala, Longwe’s father.
The lawyer questioned why the investigating police at the time did not explore the possibility that Longwe could have been the shooter, given the gun’s ownership.
