Several schools in the Mopani District have recently been targeted in a series of break-ins, resulting in significant property damage and theft. The incidents, reported at Blinkwater Gidela Secondary School and neighboring villages, have left the community in shock.
The Police Spokesperson Colonel Ledwaba Malesela in Limpopo stated that, “Police were called to four crime scenes early in the morning. At around 4:30 AM, unknown suspects broke into Gidela Secondary School in Ximausa village.”
According to reports, the complainant was alerted by community members that the school was on fire. ” Police rushed to the scene and discovered that the administration block was ablaze,” added Colonel Malesela.
Upon closer inspection, it was found that the doors of the school premises had been forced open, and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
The fire caused extensive damage to various items, including stationeries, a photocopy machine, a printer, furniture, soccer kits, and school trophies. The total value of the damage and stolen items is estimated at R341,700.
In another incident, laptops and tables were stolen from Ximausa Mpembelani School, Ha-Aka Primary School in Nobelhoek village, and Nobelhoek Primary School.
Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station. The investigation is ongoing.
