South Africa’s unemployment rate has fallen by 1.4 percentage points, now standing at 32.1% for the third quarter of 2024, according to the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey from StatsSA.
The report, released today, shows an increase in jobs across the country. Employment in the formal sector rose by 122,000 jobs, while the informal sector added 165,000 jobs.
The community and social services, construction, and trade sectors had the biggest job growth. However, some sectors, like finance, private households, manufacturing, and transport, saw a decrease in jobs.
Youth unemployment also improved slightly, dropping from 46.6% in the second quarter to 45.5% in the third quarter.
