RISE Mzansi National Leader, Songezo Zibi, marked the 48th anniversary of the 16 June 1976 uprising with a solemn speech at the Hector Pieterson Memorial. Joined by key party figures, Zibi emphasized that Youth Day is not a celebration, but a commemoration of the sacrifices made by the youth of 1976.
Zibi highlighted that many challenges faced by the youth back then still persist today. “Young people remain without work and opportunities, go to bed hungry, endure substandard education, and face mental health issues and an uncertain future due to the climate crisis,” said Zibi.
RISE Mzansi, now represented in the National Assembly and Gauteng Provincial Legislature, pledges to carry forward the fight for a safe, prosperous, equal, and united South Africa.
Zibi assured that the voices of young people would be heard and their concerns addressed through People’s Assemblies and direct community engagement.
Zibi stated, “The blood of Hector Pieterson and his peers should not be spilt in vain. We must continue their fight for a better South Africa where young people can live happy and dignified lives.”
The party’s public representatives said, they are committed to ensuring government accountability and public participation in legislative processes, as mandated by the Constitution.
