President Cyril Ramaphosa has reassured South Africans that he is not worried about the collapse of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
His spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, emphasized that despite concerns from citizens about recent threats, the president remains confident in the stability of the GNU.
“When South Africans see statements and hear leaders issuing threats to the stability of the GNU, it is then incumbent upon the president to continuously provide assurance,” said Magwenya.
This follows the Democratic Alliance (DA) threatening to walk out of the GNU if President Ramaphosa signs the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill (BELA) into law.
The president’s team has downplayed the potential fallout and continues to work towards maintaining unity.
