South African police fired rubber bullets and used stun grenades on a group of Mozambican nationals at the Lebombo border in Mpumalanga on Wednesday.
The incident occurred after the group, some of whom were drinking alcohol, gathered outside the border gate, chanting and eventually pushing it open.
Police responded to the breach by using force to control the crowd. Several people were arrested during the incident.
The situation raised concerns about security at the border, as tensions between groups at the crossing remain high.
