In Bloemfontein, the parents of a newborn baby are planning to take legal action against the Free State Department of Health. This comes after Pelonomi Hospital mistakenly declared their baby dead.
The shocking news was revealed to the parents, Boitumelo Kgabale and his family, during funeral preparations when the hospital informed them that their baby was actually alive.
Boitumelo Kgabale, the 51-year-old father, says the family is deeply traumatized by the hospital’s error. They are now seeking DNA tests to confirm if the baby is indeed theirs, as they have lost trust in the hospital’s handling of the situation.
“We’ll be taking legal action. This mistake has caused us great emotional harm. We are far from healing, and we need to take a DNA test to be sure that this baby is really ours. The hospital failed us, and now we have to pay for the DNA test and psychologists ourselves,” Kgabale told SABC News.
The family feels let down by the hospital and is determined to seek justice for the emotional distress they have endured.
