Johannesburg – In a thrilling Nedbank Cup final, Orlando Pirates defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 to claim the trophy for the second consecutive year. The match, held at a packed Mbombela stadium, saw both teams battling fiercely, but it was the Pirates who emerged victorious.
The game started off evenly, with neither team able to find the back of the net in the first half. Sundowns took the lead early in the second half when Themba Zwane scored in the 54th minute. The goal ignited the Sundowns fans, who hoped this would be the turning point in the match.
However, Pirates fought back strongly. In the 71st minute, Pirates’ Maswanganyi equalized, bringing the score to 1-1 and setting the stage for a tense final stretch.
The match seemed destined for extra time, but in the 94th minute, Younger star Mofokeng scored a dramatic winner for the Pirates, sealing the 2-1 victory.
