MAMADIMO PARK – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the murder of Detective Sergeant Luanda Rice Ringani, 41, who was shot along with a female passenger, 25, on Sunday night, June 2, 2024. The incident occurred in the Mankweng policing precinct.
Local police responded to a shooting at approximately 21:50. Upon arrival, they found the officer and the female passenger inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel declared Detective Sergeant Ringani dead at the scene, while the woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary information indicates that the victims were followed by a suspicious silver Mercedes Benz with Gauteng registration. They drove to the woman’s residence in Mamadimo Park for safety, but the suspects followed them and fired several shots before fleeing the scene.
Detective Sergeant Ringani was a dedicated member of the Detective Services attached to Polokwane SAPS. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, along with other senior SAPS management, visited the scene and directed the police to mobilize resources for a swift apprehension of the suspects.
“We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist the police in their efforts to arrest the suspects,” said Hadebe.
The Provincial Commissioner also expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer. “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the senseless killing of one of our own.
This cowardly act is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by our officers, even when they are off duty,” she stated.
