Newly appointed Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber extended temporary concessions for foreign nationals’ visas and announced plans to improve work visa processes. However, political party ActionSA has called on the Minister to urgently address the growing issue of illegal immigration.
ActionSA emphasized that widespread corruption and mismanagement within the Department of Home Affairs have allowed criminal elements to exploit the country’s visa system. “This exploitation has led to an increase in drugs and illicit goods entering South Africa, highlighting the need for stronger border and immigration controls,” stated ActionSA.
The party stressed that if Minister Schreiber is committed to prioritizing the interests of South Africans, he must tackle the illegal immigration crisis with the same urgency as the work visa issue.
ActionSA pointed out that rising crime rates linked to foreign crime syndicates and the exploitation of cheap foreign labor have worsened the job market for millions of South Africans.
With terror networks expanding across Africa, ActionSA warned that South Africa cannot afford to be lax in monitoring undocumented individuals.
The party pledged to closely monitor the Minister’s actions and ensure that the interests of South Africans are protected.
