Thohoyandou Police’s Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) is investigating a carjacking that took place in Maugani village on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at around 18:30.
According to reports, a maxi taxi driver was at the local mall when a male passenger requested a ride to Maugani village. Police Spokesperson Colonel Ledwaba Malesela stated that, “Upon arrival, the passenger produced a firearm and pointed it at the driver.”
“The driver jumped out of the moving vehicle, and the suspect drove away in the grey Toyota Corolla, registration number HFJ141L,” Colonel Ledwaba added.
The police were promptly notified, and a case of carjacking was opened. The docket has been transferred to Thohoyandou VCIU for further investigation.
Ledwaba confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
