Former artist Mapele recently shared his story about being invited to perform for Munghana Lonene FM (MLFM) free shows, where he says he and other artists were not paid. According to Mapele, MLFM told them there was no budget for the performers because the audience was allowed free entry.
Mapele mentioned that the radio station promised a booking and payment for the main event later, but he claims this was never fulfilled. Looking back, he regrets not securing a written contract to protect himself.
“Now that I’m wiser, I realize I should have drafted a contract according to this agreement because it was just a lie. I hope they don’t do that anymore, because that’s exploitation,” Mapele expressed.
Mapele’s experience highlights the challenges faced by local artists in the industry and the need for fair treatment and transparency in agreements.
