The MEC for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Violet Mathye, has voiced serious concerns about the rising number of pedestrian deaths as the festive season nears.
New statistics reveal that 25 pedestrians were recently involved in road accidents, leading to 21 tragic fatalities. This is a large increase compared to the same period last year.
Many of these accidents occurred along the N1 highway and often involved farm workers returning home from liquor outlets.
Mathye urged both drivers and pedestrians to be extra careful on the roads, especially with the busy holiday season coming up.
