Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Florence Radzilani, has officially launched the 2023 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign in Ga-Mamaila, Greater Letaba Municipality, in the Mopani District Municipality.
The decision to launch the campaign in the Mopani District was prompted by the concerning increase in road fatalities reported throughout the year.
MEC Radzilani emphasized the importance of road safety during the festive season, as the province is expecting high traffic volumes due to the influx of vehicles traveling to various parts of the province and neighboring countries.
During her address, MEC Radzilani urged motorists to prioritize safety by avoiding overloading their vehicles, exercising patience and restraint on the road, taking regular rest breaks to prevent fatigue, and refraining from drinking and driving.
“These simple yet crucial measures can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and save lives,” said MEC Radzilani.
MEC Radzilani assured the community that the Limpopo Provincial Government is fully prepared for the festive season. “The police and traffic officials will be working diligently to ensure the safety of roads and communities,” she said.
“The government’s commitment to road safety is evident in the launch of this campaign, which aims to raise awareness and promote responsible behavior among motorists,” MEC added.
The festive season is a time of joy and celebration, but it is also a period when road accidents tend to increase. It is essential for everyone to play their part in ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
By adhering to traffic regulations, being mindful of others on the road, and making responsible choices, we can all contribute to reducing road accidents and creating a safer environment for all.
The launch of the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign serves as a reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility. “It is not only the duty of law enforcement agencies but also the responsibility of every individual using the roads,
“By working together, we can make a significant impact and prevent unnecessary tragedies during this festive season,” added.
