Limpopo – The Limpopo Department of Education has issued a strong condemnation of school bullying after a disturbing video surfaced, showing learners being bullied by their peers at Mphalaleni Secondary School in the Vhembe District.
The video, which has circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage among community members and education stakeholders, calling attention to the pressing issue of school violence in the province.
MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, speaking on behalf of the Department of Education, emphasized the critical role of parents in preventing bullying in schools. “The best way to stop bullying in schools is for parents to take charge and monitor their children’s behavior and lifestyle,” said Lerule-Ramakhanya.
“Bullying destroys the lives of both the victim and the perpetrator, hence I plead that parents must watch over their children. Children must also report any bullish behavior directed towards them or any learner to the teachers immediately.”
The MEC further highlighted the importance of open communication between children, parents, and educators, urging schools to implement proactive measures to address bullying before it escalates.
The department has reportedly taken immediate steps to investigate the incident at Mphalaleni Secondary School, with support from local authorities. As part of a larger strategy to create a safe learning environment, the Department of Education is also working on anti-bullying campaigns to raise awareness among learners and promote respect and inclusivity in schools.
