Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has stated that his party accepts the election results, as resolving any disputes would not change the overall outcome.
With 99.16% of the votes counted, the African National Congress (ANC) secured 40%, falling below the 50% mark for the first time, while the EFF obtained 9.46%.
Malema expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that the EFF’s goal of reducing the ANC’s dominance was achieved. “We are happy because we have achieved our goal of bringing the ANC below 50 percent,” he said.
Malema indicated a willingness to work with the ANC, highlighting that the ANC is more cooperative when it is not in a dominant position.
“We want to work with the ANC if there is any party that we can work with and work properly because ANC, when compromised, it is not arrogant,” Malema explained.
He also announced that the EFF’s final list of Members of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures would be amended based on the performance of its members during the elections.
“If our member didn’t do anything during the election, they won’t be part of the parliament and provincial legislatures,” Malema stated.
