The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has issued a statement addressing public concerns following Minister Gayton McKenzie’s directive to publish names of beneficiaries of departmental funds.
The statement comes amid media inquiries about financial support for Makhadzi’s recent BET Awards trip, where she won Best New International Act.
DSAC clarified that Makhadzi has indeed received substantial support over the past 14 months, including bookings for national performances totaling up to R230,000.
The department emphasized its commitment to creating local and global platforms for South Africa’s creative sector, aiming to empower artists through ongoing support and opportunities.
In response to allegations of insufficient support for artists like Makhadzi, DSAC firmly refuted such claims, highlighting its efforts to nurture talent both locally and internationally.
