In a shocking turn of events, the peaceful village of Rooerfontein outside Giyani in Mopani District was rocked by a tragic incident on Wednesday night. The local police have arrested a 19-year-old female suspect for the alleged murder of her own father.
According to Police Spokesperson in Limpopo Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the police received a distressing call on Wednesday evening, alerting them to a family dispute in Roerfontein village.
“Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of a 60-year-old man, identified as Edward Frank Ralekgokgo, with stab wounds on his back and right hand,” said Police Spokesperson Mashaba.
Mashaba continues to say, It was later revealed that the victim’s wife had witnessed the altercation.
“The details of the incident are still emerging, but it is believed that the deceased had engaged in a heated argument with his wife. Sensing her mother’s distress, the daughter intervened and called for help from the community,
“Tragically, the situation escalated when the father attacked his daughter with a knife. In an act of self-defense, the young woman managed to disarm her father and, in the ensuing struggle, fatally stabbed him,” added Police Spokesperson.
“Paramedics arrived at the scene but were unable to save Mr. Ralekgokgo, declaring him dead on-site,” he added.
The motive behind this heartbreaking incident remains unknown, but domestic violence is being considered as a possible factor, this is according to the police Spokesperson.
The community of Rooerfontein is left grappling with shock and sorrow as they try to comprehend the events that unfolded within their midst.

The suspect, a 19-year-old female, is currently in police custody and is expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, December 1, 2023.
