Sandile Mantsoe, a convicted murderer, was sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison by the Evander Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Tuesday for fraud and violating the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act.
According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Lucy Sekgotodi, Mantsoe used his company, Trillion Dollar Legacy, to run a Ponzi scheme. He recruited 180 municipal workers and employees from the departments of education and justice, collecting R2 million from them.
Investigations revealed that Mantsoe tricked 119 victims into investing by providing false information about the investment.
Sekgotodi stated that Mantsoe’s new sentence will be served concurrently with his 36-year imprisonment for the 2017 murder of his girlfriend, Karabo Mokoena.
