Pirates took the lead early in the game, with Relebohile Mofokeng scoring in the 15th minute. The young midfielder found the back of the net with a well-placed shot, giving the Buccaneers a 1-0 advantage.
Cape Town City responded in the second half. In the 61st minute, Darian Rhodes scored the equalizer for the home team, bringing the score to 1-1.
Rhodes’ goal was crucial, as it kept City’s hopes alive for the second leg.
The teams will meet again on Saturday, 31 August, at Orlando Stadium to decide who will advance to the MTN8 final.
