As the battle for Local Government Elections gathers steam, African National Congress stood up to brief the nation regarding the Local Government Elections to be held in November 2021.
The South African ruling party penned a press statement attending a misleading headline spotted on the Eye Witness News Online platform published on November 14, 2021.
The headline reads, “ANC misses its deadline to resolve candidate disputes”
However, ANC noted that the body of the article is accurate but the headline gives a wrong impression that ANC has not met one of its crucial deadlines towards the local government elections.
ANC confirmed that all its processes are up to date and proceeding in the schedule to meet the time frame set by Independent Electoral Commission.
“The missing of the deadline does not arise at this stage as the issue of dispute resolution was clarified in the letter from Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte,” read the statement.
The press statement highlighted that ANC will focus on voter registration and get as many eligible voters as possible to go out and register to vote.
ANC notified its members and supporters that it will register its candidates with the IEC by the 21st of September 2021.
“We are so proud of the democratic process of nominating candidates for the forthcoming local government election because this process empowers the communities with a final decision on who becomes the councilor in each ward throughout the country,” they added.
