Randburg – Siboniso Zitha, accused of murdering pastry chef Thembekile Letlape, appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court today to receive a provisional charge sheet and schedule a bail application hearing. However, Zitha has decided to abandon his bail application.
Zitha faces charges for the murder of Letlape, whose body was found in her Douglas Dale residence on 30 May 2024. The discovery came after Letlape’s family, alarmed by a message from her stating she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, requested police assistance to access her home.
With the help of a locksmith, they entered the premises and found Letlape deceased.
Phindi Mjonondwane, NPA Regional Spokesperson – Gauteng Division, Johannesburg stated that, “In addition to the murder charge, Zitha has been charged with two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of malicious damage to property,”
” These charges stem from a complaint lodged by his ex-girlfriend in November 2022 and will be consolidated with the murder case,” added Mjonondwabe.
The state is also pursuing a perjury charge against Zitha for allegedly lying to the court about having no pending cases, violating Section 60(11)(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act.
The case has been postponed to 19 August 2024 for further investigations.
