ActionSA has voiced strong opposition to the rumored expansion of South Africa’s cabinet, which is reportedly being considered to accommodate the coalition government formed by the ANC, DA, IFP, and PA parties.
The proposal to increase the number of cabinet seats has sparked concern among those who have long advocated for a leaner government.
ActionSA chairperson Micheal Beaumont condemned the move, highlighting the party’s longstanding commitment to a smaller, more efficient cabinet.
“This is the problem when the opposition space is abandoned by those who seek power. Years of fighting for a reduced cabinet are abandoned,” said the ActionSA chairperson Michael Beaumont.
ActionSA reiterated its proposal for an 18-seat cabinet with no deputy ministers and called for a complete revision of the ministerial handbook to ensure accountability and efficiency in government operations.
The potential cabinet expansion has raised questions about the balance between effective governance and political compromise.
Critics argue that increasing the number of ministers and deputy ministers could lead to inefficiency and higher costs, undermining efforts to streamline government functions.
