Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, has announced that an additional 15 villages in Giyani will have access to water by the end of August.
This update comes from the Department of Water and Sanitation, which reported in July that water has begun flowing to nine villages in the Greater Giyani Municipality. This progress follows the near-completion of the Giyani Water Treatment Works refurbishment.
The Giyani Water Project, started in 2014 to benefit 55 villages, has faced various delays and challenges. However, Ntshavheni shared positive news that the Mopani District Municipality has received grant funding to further refurbish and increase the capacity of the Giyani Water Treatment Works.
With ongoing water supply challenges in the country, the Department of Water and Sanitation will provide updates every two weeks on progress and measures to ensure water security.
