Two people have been confirmed dead after a diesel tanker collided with a bus full of passengers in the Eastern Cape.
The department of transport in the area said the accident occurred at about 09AM on Monday on the N2 near Kwelera, between East London and Kei Bridge.
“The tanker caught fire after the crash. Two were declared dead on the scene while others sustained injuries,” Department of Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose said.
“Search, rescue and recovery personnel remain on the scene to check if there aren’t any more survivors, trapped in the wreckage or anything else they may have missed.”
According to reports, an injured passengers have been taken to Frere Hospital and the investigation is underway as it is still not mentioned what was the cause of the incidence.
