Soshanguve – The ongoing police search operation that was introduced at the beginning of this month seems to be working. The Gauteng police department has intervened in assisting the schools as suspensions for the learners who are committed in the wrongdoings, especially in the school premises continues.
These searching programs are operated by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) Department of Community, Tshwane Metro Police Department, and the Department of Education.
This program is made to create a safe and healthy environment for those learners who are there to learn, not a playground for drug abusers and misbehaving learners.
Mr. Kgomotso Hans, the principal at Amogelang Secondary School in Soshanguve Block P, said that he was pleased when the police came to the school and numerous issues were resolved.
“We had our first searching program on the first week of this month and I remember it was after the second period, even the learners were not aware what are the police here for.
“They got drugs, knifes, and other sharp metals that are dangerous. I had to release suspension letters for those learners because we can’t keep such learners around for safety reasons”.
He continued by saying that these operations should be done every month on random days until the schools are only left with the well behaving learners.
Parents are grateful for the support from the police and the SGB members because they are the ones who spend 8 hours of the day with their children at school.
Valencia Mahlake who is a mother of a grade 10 pupil at Amogelang said that they know very well as parents that their kids are troublesome, but they don’t have any choice because they want them to be educated.
“My son would always come back with new stories every day about what has happened at school. I’m also worried as a parent because you can receive a call anytime telling you to come to school, something has happened to your child or your child has been arrested”.
These searching programs are to continue in all the schools around the area including primary schools as these departments are assuring everyone that they will make sure that the schools are safe and clean.
